A servant leader looks to and plans for the future. This is more than just mere goal setting, it is developing a vision for your life. Blanchard and Hodges state, “A goal is a specific event that once achieved, becomes a piece of history to be superseded by a new goal. A vision, or view of the future, is an ongoing, evolving, hopeful look into the future that stirs the hearts and minds of people who know they will never see its end or limit.” A goal is a static point in the future while a vision is a purpose giving and life enhancing. Striving to meet your vision is a process that is ever arriving and never fully arrived. Goal setting is a process that has a point of finality to it. Warner started the First Things First Foundation in 1999.

“This foundation started with a vision sparked by a magical year in 1999 when my lifelong dream of success in the NFL became a reality. I had my share of ups and downs on the field during my career. But, through it all I felt the Lord’s presence at work in my life. NFL experts tried to figure out the secret to my on-field successes. For me, it's easy and really has little to do with football. First things first - faith and family - is my formula for success.”
